MuCEM, FRANCE

January 31, 2015

I enjoyed  looking at the changing sunlight and its effect on the mood created by the architecture of Marseille’s latest large Museum called the MuCEM (Museum of the Civilizations of Europe and the Mediterranean).

The roof and walls of the modern building made me think of a giant fishnet of concrete overlooking the sea. I also like the contrast of that modern building with the older structures that are actually also part of the museum like the historic Fort St Jean. It reminded me of the Glass pyramid in the Louvre Museum. The idea of mixing old and new in order to reinforce each other’s visual impact is interesting to me as a metaphor from learning from all ages.
